The famous Bridgend tour down the years
The famous Bridgend tour down the years

WE'RE BACK!
Monday 18 January 2010

The Westminster Casuals FC website is finally back up and running after 11 weeks down time due to technical problems.

Thanks to webmaster Dom for investing hours of his time to iron out the various IT issues which included moving the site to a new host company. Further changes are due to be made including updating the player dropdown menus but in the meantime we can at least upload news items.

When the website was first taken down in the beginning of December the casuals domain was erroneously pointed at the Principality Auctions website ('the world's finest stamp auction site' - according to one P Malcolm) and the rumourmill soon went into overdrive with one rival club predicting our demise, claiming we had gone into administration and had been put up for sale.

We are keen to set the record straight and make it clear that as well as thriving on the pitch the club is on a sound financial footing off it, thanks in no small measure to the sterling efforts of Chairman Hob.

Such is Sam's commitment to the club he purposely gave one of the worst individual displays in club history against Nutfield in order to sabotage his proposed transfer to the same opponents. We are delighted to report his two goal salvo and MoM performance against Old Plymouthians showed a return to form and in his own words his goal assists are now "almost in double figures."

With regard to club finances, we are delighted to announce that Branded have renewed their website sponsorship for another year and the 2010 raffle looks set to raise a record breaking sum of cash. Prizes include £150 cash, a signed shirt from either Man Utd or Arsenal, top of the range Nike boots and a signed England rugby shirt. Tickets are £1 each or 6 for a fiver so well worth a punt.

We haven't taken to the field since that 5-1 demolition of Old Plymouthians on 12 December due to a combination of the inclement weather and Christmas break with last Saturday's League Cup match at Weston Green the latest to be postponed.

We hope to return to action this coming Saturday against Puretown but our 6 week winter break means fitness levels are key so get some training under your belt this week.

Reports from all our five matches since November will appear here soon as well as updated player profiles, news items, club gossip and columns from your favourite Casuals stars.

2010 is officially the year of the Rat and promises to be a huge one for WCFC. We are currently top of SSEC Division One, with a strong squad chomping st the bit after a lenghly lay off.

Let's hit the ground running this year and give ourselves every chance of winning our first silverware since 2006.
