2011 - THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS

2011 was a successful year for Westminster Casuals as they posted their best results in a calendar year league since joining the Surrey South Eastern Combination.
In all the Casuals played 33 games in 2011, winning 17 (52%), drawing 7 (21%) and losing 9 (27%).
This compares favourably with 2010 and 2009 during which we won 36% and 39% respectively.
The year began and ended with a succession of draws and defeats but between 12th Feb and 15th Oct we embarked on a fantastic run losing just once in 20 games. In this period we won 16 and drew 3, scoring 44 goals and conceding just 18 in the process.
Sadly the wheels came off on 22nd Oct when a weakened team went down 5-0 against Westside and despite winning the battle of St Andrews the following week we never quite regained top form, but did register a couple of draws against the top two teams in the Division.
Sam Holder topped the 2011 goal charts with 11, followed by Nico Heslop on 7, Dave Maunsell with 6 and Stuart Lester and Andy Thirsk on 5 each. Four of Thirsky?s 5 goal haul came against 9 man Croydon Greenside in a game later rescinded by the league but thankfully for him this game shows in club records as it was played as a full game at the time.
