CROYGAS PHOENIX 2
WESTMINSTER CASUALS 1
Saturday 30 January 2010

The Westminster Casuals travelled to Croygas determined to get back to winning ways after the previous week?s disappointing start to the new year.

Inexplicably the start was sluggish and it took a Dave Maunsell goal line clearance to prevent the Casuals falling behind. After weathering the early Croygas pressure the Casuals started to make inroads. Good chances fell to both John Skelly and Andy Barnett, however both missed the target.

The second half began as the first had finished with the Casuals on top and at times stroking the ball around nicely. The deadlock was eventually broken when Nico Heslop fired home following a manic goalmouth scramble. The goal visibly deflated Croygas and it seemed the three points were there for the taking.

However following a hit and hope from a Croygas defender Dan Little brought down the number nine, 20 yards from goal. A deflected free kick later and it was 1-1. Worse was to follow as the same player rifled in a 30 yard effort into the bottom corner to give Croygas the lead.

Despite much endeavour the Casuals failed to get back on terms and the boys slipped to their second defeat on the spin. Although the passing was an improvement on the Puretown game the result was still a bitter pill to swallow.
