FINAL LEAGUE TABLE

The final 2009/10 league table has been published and shows the Westminster Casuals finished 5th in Surrey South Eastern Division One.
This represents an improvement on last seasons 8th position, and is therefore the clubs highest ever finish in the football pyramid. SSEC Division One is situated at the 12th level of the English football league system, and is the highest level attainable for clubs (like ours) without the necessary facilities eg. dug outs, a pitch surround and a clubhouse.
However before slapping ourselves too hard on the back it should be noted that our 1.5 points per game average is only marginally better than the 1.46 achieved in 2008/09. Champions Tooting Bec recorded a PPG average of 2.25. Plenty of room for improvement next season!
We won 10 of the 23 league games played and were awarded the points when Croygas failed to show on 31 October. This is the first time in the Casuals' 19 year history that the team have finished a league season with a goal difference of nil.
We saved our best form for the League Senior Cup winning 5 games, scoring 9 goals and conceding none.
In all competitions we played 29 games, winning 15, drawing 3 and losing 11. We scored 54 goals and conceded 46. John Skelly top scored with 9 however as the Hobbit continually reminds us, 6 of those came from the penalty spot. For the record the Hobbit notched 8 times, nearly all of which were intended crosses.
At the other end of the pitch, our 9 clean sheets (that's no goals against in 31% of all matches) was the clubs best since the treble winning season of 2004/05.
